Flannery_Photo_2_resizedFlannery Burdick, Managing Director and Founder of Olive & Crane, began working with universities large and small over 15 years ago. Her positions have ranged from lead marketing and publicity writer for the global outreach office of a US university; to editor at a large university press in China; to manager of content strategy and editorial services at The Brenn-White Group, a marketing firm that established international higher education as a specialized field requiring focus and dedication. Olive & Crane is founded on this dedication. Flannery has run workshops and conducted trainings for institutions in places like Germany, Russia, and Israel. She has worked with universities, colleges, consortia, government agencies, cities, companies and non-profits in 15+ countries to improve their international communications and strategies. Flannery has a master’s degree in composition and a strong command of Mandarin Chinese.

Ailar Arak, Graphic Designer, has extensive experience working with institutions of higher education around the world to create layouts, logos, infographics, illustrations, custom icons, and designs for posters, brochures, whitepapers, newsletters, strategy documents – the list could go on! Ailar has also done merchandise design for institutions – including mock-ups of t-shirts, mugs, caps, and hoodies. His work is further informed by his experience with businesses, non-profits, and translation agencies. From Estonia, having studied in Denmark and the UK, and now living in Hong Kong, Ailar’s vision is highly international, focusing on clean, simple, and modern designs.

Sandra Barry, Editor and Writer, brings more than a decade of experience in the fields of education and journalism to her work with Olive & Crane. Her diverse professional background includes content editing and project management for online courses, producing award-winning investigations, and consulting for public media. Sandra has extensive experience in employment marketing as well as higher education recruitment. She completed a degree in English at the University of Kansas, and is certified in copy editing by the University of California San Diego and the American Copy Editors Society.


Christine Clukey Reece, Editor and Writer, has over a decade of experience working with business, technical, and educational material. Her degree in environmental science lends her an analytical background suited to both handling complex text and developing content for academic audiences. She has extensive experience working with institutions on international accreditation applications, reports, and more. Christine is a US native residing in Canada, and works with a variety of styles in American, British, and Canadian English. She has working knowledge of French and basic knowledge of Spanish.
